Don’t Trash Arizona Litterbag Contest

The purpose of the Don’t Trash Arizona Design-A-Litterbag Contest (hereafter, Contest) is to promote awareness of the impacts of roadway littering by designing a litterbag that can be placed in vehicles so that motorists can dispose of trash properly. The litterbag design will be printed onto recyclable white heavy plastic litterbags that are approximately 9” x 10” in size.

The contest is sponsored and administered by the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG). MAG reserves the right to determine whether entries are accepted or disqualified. Incomplete applications will not be accepted and must be resubmitted prior to the deadline. MAG reserves the right, but does not guarantee, to contact the entrant if the potential for reentry exists.

Timeline

  1. The Contest opens at 12:00 a.m. MST on September 15, 2011, and ends at 11:59 p.m. MST on October 14, 2011.
  2. Top designs, as judged by MAG, will be posted for public voting on October 20, 2011.
  3. Voting open to the public: October 20, 2011 to November 3, 2011.
  4. Winner and design announced on November 10, 2011.

Entry Requirements

  1. Entries are to be submitted online at www.DontTrashAz.com on the Design a Litterbag Contest landing page.
  2. All required registration information and design files must be submitted electronically by October 14, 2011 at 11:59 p.m. MST.
  3. Entrants must be enrolled in a high school within Maricopa County and be under 19 years of age. All Entrants under 18 must have permission from a parent or guardian to participate. Entrants must have proof of enrollment with student ID.
  4. Employees of MAG, Arizona Department of Transportation and their respective affiliates, divisions, suppliers, distributors and advertising, promotional agencies as well as each of their respective employees, shareholders, directors, officers and their immediate family members and/or those living in the same household of each listed entity are not eligible to participate or win.
  5. The person submitting the entry will be deemed the Entrant. If more than one person is submitting the entry, the names of the individuals must be included on the entry form, and the group will be considered the Entrant. However, only one entry per person is allowed.
  6. All Entrants must consent to the full terms and conditions for the use of the submitted design. By submitting an entry, the Entrant consents to having the design posted online for the public to view and judge.
  7. Submitted designs can be a file no bigger than 2 MB and in the .PDF or .JPEG format.
  8. All entries must be the singular and original work of the Entrant. Entries are the property of MAG and will not be acknowledged or returned. MAG also has the sole discretion to determine whether or not a design qualifies for entry.
  9. Entrant must have authorized use of the email address from which the entry is being made or will be disqualified. Normal Internet access and usage fees will apply based on entrant’s service agreement.
  10. Entrant may not copy or otherwise plagiarize entry materials from any source. Entrants agree that all rights to the entry do not infringe, misappropriate or violate the rights of a third party.
  11. Entries that contain the following materials will be immediately disqualified: obscene, lewd, profane, acts of violence or acts that appear to cause harm; any copyright, trademark, logo or other mark that identifies a brand entity or the proprietary property; any third party materials that violate or infringe on other proprietary right(s) of any person living or deceased; other material deemed offensive by MAG, in its sole discretion.
  12. Contest administrators are not responsible for technical, hardware or software malfunctions, telephone failures of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections or failed, incorrect, inaccurate, incomplete, garbled or delayed electronic communications whether caused by sender or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in this contest which may limit the ability to participate, or by any human error which may occur in processing the entries.

Judging

  1. The top designs as determined by MAG will be posted on the Don’t Trash Arizona website for public voting. Voters will use a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the best possible score, to evaluate each design.
  2. Public voting will take place from October 20 – November 3, 2011.
  3. Each entry will receive a score of 1-5, based on the average public vote.
  4. The use of automatic devices for voting is prohibited and MAG reserves the right to discount those types of votes and to disqualify Entrants using such devices.
  5. The top designs will be posted on the following criteria: Originality, creativity, communication of Don’t Trash Arizona messages and overall appeal and presentation.
  6. The winning design will be selected on a combination of votes from the public and MAG judges. The design with the highest score will be chosen as winner. In the event of a tie, designs will be reevaluated by MAG.
  7. All judging decisions made by MAG are final. By participating in the contest, Entrants agree to the aforementioned rules, which will be final in all respects.

Prizes

  1. The selected winning design may be produced and promoted as the Don’t Trash Arizona limited edition litterbag. MAG plans to produce approximately 25,000 bags to be distributed at the discretion of MAG.
  2. The Maricopa County High School of the winning Entrant will also be eligible to receive a live radio remote by one of MAG’s radio partners at a designated time, likely during a lunch hour, at their school, along with food provided by the radio partner serving up to 100 people.

Notification

  1. MAG will make at least three attempts to contact the winner of the Contest via phone within 72 hours from the time the winner is determined. If MAG is unable to reach the finalist within the designated time frame, said person will be disqualified. An alternate winner then will be selected based on the next highest score as determined by the rules for judging.
  2. Necessary paperwork associated with printing will be sent via email to the winner. If paperwork is returned undeliverable, the winner will be disqualified and a new winner chosen.
  3. MAG reserves the right to continue to promote entries in the order they are ranked until the prize positions are filled.
